  1. Refreshing approach. But, I think its success in part depends upon the people working there. “Happiness” would have to be modelled to suit. Some people would collpase working in an environment like that.

    • The thing I find interesting is that these new internet businesses not only have a radical approach to how they do their business they have a radical approach to how they treat people.

Consider these pics of Google’s offices

This is a vastly different workspace to what people are used to and probably a vastly different way of interacting.

I found Zappos corporate rules on line – they are different to what passes for corporate culture in Australia.

      1. Deliver WOW through service

      2. Embrace and drive change

      3. Create fun and a little weirdness

      4. Be adventurous, creative and open-minded

      5. Pursue growth and learning

      6. Build open and honest relationships with communication

      7. Build a positive team and family spirit

      8. Do more with less

      9. Be passionate and determined

      10. Be humble

My feeling is that it would be impossible to find anything in Australia that has more than 5 employees that has a similar culture. My experience of Australian retailers has generally been rip the customer off at every opportunity and provide at best indifferent service through surly rude staff. Which is why I now shop exclusively overseas……

  2. The beauty about this list is that it is not a dogmatic set of rules. Rather it is trying to capture an attitude of encouragement, respect and creativity. As such, components can be adapted and applied in a way that is relevant to the people involved, the company, and the wider environment.
