Once upon a time the Korean martial of Tae Kwon Do was my chosen activity – it is an activity I first took up when I was 12 and stayed with for a decade. So it is no wonder I found this video somewhat endearing –
Little blokes going at it
Unfortunately, it encapsulates the reasons I left TKD since these little blokes are not far removed from this –
Badminton with helmets
Lots of bouncing up and down and then squealing as if you have had a Rubiks Cube jammed up your bum….I forgot to mention there is a lot of falling down as well.
This is a far cry from when I used to compete, granted things evolve and progress but sometimes not for the better. The various TKD groups did a good job of getting their sport accepted into the Olympics but at the same time they watered down a martial art to the point where it is functionally useless.
When I competed our rules were more akin to those still used by a style of karate known as Kyokushin
Notice how there is no bouncing or squealing as if you are giving birth to a grapefruit.
