I believe every traders library should have a copy of Owning Your Own Shadow by Robert A Johnson which is a quick exploration of the nature of the shadow and tole it plays in our lives.

The subconscious mind is at play all day every day. Being aware of thoughts and feelings and being conscious of what the subconscious brings to the surface is a never ending practice. Before we can embrace or change what’s in the subconscious mind, we have to become aware of what is in the subconscious mind. For me it is a matter of consistently becoming more and more aware of catching my thoughts and the feelings associated with it.
Another book I have found really useful is Anthony DeMello – Awareness. I often keep referring back to both of these books.
Awareness is it.
The full title is Awareness (The Opportunities and Perils of Reality)
For me, trying to not take anything too seriously means the shadow isn’t something to be afraid of but to have fun with – in the way that Alan Watts says you must decide if life is ultimately a comedy or a tragedy.
Also, I like to remind myself of Sting’s lyrics “the search for perfection is all very well, but to be looking to heaven is to be looking from hell”. Heaven is here right now, if you want to live it, and it’s full of wonderful textures that can only be found in the shadows.
Thanks Chris,
It is a great book & i am certainly getting plenty out of reading it.
Will have to read it a few times to get the most out of it.
