“It’s 10 pm, I’m going to bed,” is what I told the group of friends, teammates, and strangers who were gathered in our house for a get-together during college. It was a Friday night and I had a long run the next morning.
For much of my time, I was a bit obsessive. I wanted to run quickly, so I prioritized things like sleep to an extreme degree. It might have been a little strange for a high school or college kid to eschew partying for sleep, but to me, it was normal. The upside is that from my childhood until recently I was a master at getting sleep.
