EVEN AFTER I STARTED to make money, I still had some hang-ups:
- In my pantry, you’d find around 20 boxes of cereal. After eating Homebrand cardboard-tasting cereal for so many years, having yummy cereal somehow represents prosperity.
- I don’t mind earning the money, but I have an aversion to seeing how much money we’re forking out on school fees. I make my husband pay those accounts.
- It took me a long time to be comfortable going on an expensive holiday. It used to seem like a waste of money. I remember reading how Phil Knight (the guy behind Nike) and his wife shopped for massive amounts of toilet paper and toothpaste once their company made them into billionaires. They stocked up on ‘staples’ in case someone took all of their money away – so at least they’d have something to show for it.
What are your money hang-ups?
The more aware you become, the less your hang-ups will have a hold over you.
