If you have ever wondered how markets work or how simple behaviours can lead to vastly complex outcomes consider this video on murmuration in starlings. Murmuration is simply a gathering of starlings – this behaviour is rarely caught on film but it is the product of two simlpe rules. Keep up and don’t bang into the bird next to you.
The lessons for trading are obvious in that whilst markets are extremely complex in their presentation and no end of effort goes into modelling them in a quantitative sense and in trying to predict them (a pointless endevour). Simple rules can such as keep up and don’t bang into the person next to you ( follow the trend, dont crash and burn) allow for adequate navigation of a complex environment.
