Thucydides said it simply and well. “The secret of happiness is freedom, and the secret of freedom is courage”. I have had it on my wall for some time. Helps me with block.

Which is a little bit like the notion that discipline brings freedom
Interestingly, I just now came upon this little gem as a follow up to the above with respect to courage (and therefore to freedom), also from Thucydides: “Self-control is the chief element in self-respect, and self-respect is the chief element in courage”. Directly interconnects with your last comment Chris where discipline = self control.
