Unfortunately, most of the material you encounter regarding trading is skewed towards ever decreasing time frames. This is probably reflective of the capacity of data to now be broken easily into time frames, the profoundly short attention span of the majority of traders, and the inability to step back and look at the bigger picture.
When encountering ts of confusion it is actually not any of my charting packages or indicators that I find to be most helpful. It is the couch that sits at the back of my office. I pick up my wireless keyboard take a set and look at charts on my reasonably large monitor. If I can instantly define what the trend is from the back of the room then the confusion lifts. If I cannot determine the trend then there is no trend.
I wonder what the energy complex is trying to tell people.
