I have just started making my way through the Shah of Shahs by Ryszard Kapuscinski and I came across the following passage –
The concept of oil expresses perfectly the eternal human dream of wealth achieved through lucky accident, through the kiss of fortune and not by sweat, anguish, and hard work. In this sense, oil is a fairy tale and, like every fairy tale a bit of a lie.
You could substitute the word trading for oil as most traders look not for a method that will serve them over the long term but rather one akin to winning a lottery where a single trade makes them rich beyond imagination. Sadly the industry is set up to promulgate this myth and new traders are too lazy and too gullible to see through it.
