Whilst having breakfast at my local this morning I spied a piece on the resurgence of Microsoft (MSFT) under current CEO Satya Nadelle who has managed to move the company beyond some the disastrous decisions made by former CEO Steve Ballmer. The thrust of the piece was the MSFT was worth almost as much as Apple (AAPL). Not one to take a journalists word for anything I did a bit of fact checking and lo and behold they were right. APPL has a market cap of $852B and MSFT is not far behind at $845B. Something that must drive the APPL fanboys mental – along with the fact that APPL only exists because Bill Gates saved it from bankruptcy.
I thought I would also take a look at the recent share price performance of the two and generated the chart below.
Interestingly for the past two years MSFT has out performed AAPL – who would have guessed that?
