I WAS SIDE-BY-SIDE with my Grandmother at the retirement village, looking into her dresser mirror. “Who do you see Gran?” I asked.
“I see an old woman. I’m always shocked when I see her. Inside I’m still 18 years old, dancing and laughing with my fiancé, my whole life ahead of me.”
You see, our bodies age, but our minds are so often trapped in the memories of our younger selves. Our youthful abilities are cruelly snatched from us with the passing of each year.
With trading though, once you know how to trade, no-one and nothing can sweep aside your skill. It’s something you can do no matter how old you are. As long as you have a dream in your heart that you yearn for, the sun never has to set on your identity as a ‘trader’.
At some stage in our lives we reach our ‘Invisible Midday’ – when our future days are marred by restrictions.
A compression of skills, opportunities and abilities. An invisible turning point when life ceases to open up, and a tipping point has been reached. Imperceptible at first. Growing in intensity with each passing year.
Sometimes the autumn of our life can seem more like winter.
As a trader though, your midday is extended and the ripe richness of the markets in all their majesty can continue to be revealed to you.
There is no grief about the passing of a lost identity.
There is no regret about the accumulation of skills you mastered.
The skills you learn as a trader carry you into old age – granting you an intellectual fascination, occupying your mind in a way that other ‘retirees’ will never experience.
Trading can be your future… and it’s a bright one… no matter what your age, gender, culture or background.
You can continue to pick up sparkling gems from the black velvet of the markets, illuminated by your skill and passion.
You, my friend, are a trader… and you always will be.
Stand proud
