I am often perplexed when people begin to talk about the state of their lives. My confusion arises because I see their actions and then think well your life couldn’t really go any other way. I have mentioned my postie before who goes home and undoubtedly wonders why he is not the chairman of the board of CBA yet he can’t seem to manage to get the letters in the letterbox nor does he seem to care. This jarring juxtaposition between action and ambition is opaque to him.
Barring some unfortunate event that has changed the trajectory of their lives, most people in western society are where they want to be. Granted there are differences in aims, ambitions and abilities but most people blunder through their lives silently muttering the saddest words in the English language….if only.
What brought this to mind was the piece I saw below –
You would think that after weeks in isolation that your time would be spent visiting family and friends, to reconnect physically with loved ones or simply to stand somewhere quiet outside and be thankful that you survived when tens to thousands of others did not. But not these losers and I do not use this word loosely because of its very harsh connotations. However, if your first act in coming out of lockdown was to jump in the car and sit in a queue for hours to do a Macca’s run then you are one sad bastard. I understand that the Scots are different what with the blokes wearing skirts, eating barley in a sheep’s stomach and the playing of bagpipes which is the missing link between noise and music. But for this to be a thing is surprising and somewhat disheartening.
You may wonder about the link between this and trading – to me the link is obvious but to others it is invisible and it can be stated quite easily. If the rest of your life and everything it encompasses is rubbish then your trading will be rubbish. Trading is a deeply personal and psychological endeavour as such it is reflective of your values and more importantly who you are. If you cant get your arse out of bed before 8 am don’t bother trying to trade a short term system, if you can’t resist smashing an entire box of doughnuts when you know you shouldn’t don’t whinge about not being able to take stops when they are hit.
Everything is interconnected and trading does not occur in a vacuum who you are is how you trade and who you are is reflected in your values.
Unfortunately, this seems to be the standard of society. It is very hard to find someone to socialize with that isn’t whinging about their job or blaming their life circumstances on someone else. The popularity of reality tv shows seems to be a good indicator of where society is at.
A highly amusing Friday night read!
Couldn’t agree more.
Associating with wise people helps re success in trading or life in general. Educating yourself re trading is also important. Even more important is avoiding losers. Avoid where possible the loser mindset. Discipline in life applies both to trading (following the trading plan), and diet (avoiding junk food).
